Fukuoka Airport duty free sits right after passport control and opens at 7 a.m. Royce went from 800 to 1,125 yen, and liquor was cheaper in town.

Fukuoka Airport duty free is right in front of you once you clear passport control at the international terminal. The airport isn't big, so the fashion, cosmetics and liquor shops are all in one area, and only the snack section is a short walk away toward the gates. As of October 2026, it's open from 7 a.m. until the last flight of the day leaves.

I've stopped at Fukuoka Airport duty free on every trip home: July and October 2024, August 2025 and this September. In 2024 the airport was under construction and quite chaotic, but when I came back in 2025 after the work was done, everything from the departures floor to the duty free area was much cleaner. The prices below are what I saw in person.

How the duty free area is laid out

The area straight ahead after passport control is the main duty free zone. On the left is a row of fashion brands like Kenzo, Onitsuka Tiger and Porter, the food hall is above that, and the cosmetics and liquor shops are further in.

The snack section is a short walk toward the gates. The first time, I couldn't find it and walked an extra lap. For cosmetics, there's a multi-brand shop and separate brand shops like Lancôme, SK-II and Shiseido. If you're buying cosmetics, the brand shops were the better bet.

There's a luxury shop with watches, perfume and cosmetics, but no fashion houses like Louis Vuitton, Chanel or Hermès. Think of it as a department store's ground-floor beauty hall. For men's bags there were Tumi and Bally, but luxury goods weren't cheap here, and not many people were buying.

Just remember fashion and liquor are right after passport control and snacks are toward the gates, and you'll walk a bit less.

Snacks: Royce went up, but you can still taste before you buy

Royce nama chocolate display at Fukuoka Airport duty free with a 1,125 yen price tag

Royce chocolate is the thing most people buy at the airport. In July and October 2024 it was 800 yen a box for any flavor, and since it has to stay cold, I added a 100 yen cooler bag at the counter. That was about half what it cost online back home, so I bought extra for family. When I came back in August 2025, the tag said 1,125 yen. That's more than 40% in a year, and knowing the old price, I couldn't bring myself to buy it.

Fukuoka had more Royce in stock than the duty free at Tokyo's Narita Airport, so it was easy to pick by flavor.

Tokyo Banana was 1,300 yen for eight. It's an easy gift to hand out to coworkers or friends, but I thought it was pricey for the taste, and after buying it once I haven't again.

The best part of the snack section is the samples. Staff happily let you try even the more expensive sweets, so I could taste a few before choosing. If you want gifts with nicer packaging than Don Quijote snacks, the duty free is the better place. They also had Ichiran ramen and matcha products, so I could fill in whatever I'd missed in town. They sell magnets too, but the designs were disappointing, so if you collect them like I do, buy them in the city first.

Fashion: Onitsuka Tiger and Porter

Entrance to the Onitsuka Tiger shop in the Fukuoka Airport duty free area

It's easy to find something to buy in the fashion shops by the entrance. As of September 2026, Onitsuka Tiger shoes were in the 15,000 to 20,000 yen range tax-free, clearly cheaper than I'd seen them outside Japan. That said, the Osaka city stores gave foreign visitors about 5% off on top of tax-free, so if you get the chance to buy in town, it may be a bit cheaper there.

Porter was mostly bags, and prices matched the city stores. Being at the airport didn't make it any cheaper.

Liquor and tobacco: how they compare to the city

Liquor wasn't cheaper here than at liquor stores in Fukuoka city. Stores in town also do tax-free with your passport, so if you have room in your checked bag, buying in town saves a little. The difference is small, though, so if your bag is close to the limit or you're worried about bottles breaking, buying at the airport and carrying it on is easier.

A carton of Japanese cigarettes was about 3,600 yen in July 2024 and 3,900 yen in August 2025. That's cheaper than a convenience store, but not enough of a gap to make the duty free a real deal. Check your home country's duty-free tobacco allowance before you buy more than one carton.

If you have room in your bag, buy liquor in town. If you're tight on weight, the airport duty free makes sense.

Checkout lines and timing

The checkout line looked long enough that I worried about boarding, but it moved faster than expected and I was done in about 10 minutes. The snack section is on the way to the gates, so you can stop there right before boarding.

Since Royce went up, what's still worth buying at Fukuoka Airport duty free is snacks you can taste first and Onitsuka Tiger. Pick up medicine, cosmetics and cheaper snacks at Don Quijote in town before you head to the airport.
